The Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee offers Southern hospitality with an emphasis on the country music industry. Conforming to this theme, Stromberg Architectural added stylized musical instruments to each structural element we produced.
For the columns and pilasters, we modified our standard Corinthian style caps to contain a miniaturized banjo. The same banjo can be found on the outermost ring of the custom made armillary sphere that Stromberg designed and manufactured for the Opryland Hotel. The armillary sphere is a replica of the ancient Greek astronomical model of the heavens. For the Opryland Hotel, recently renamed the Gaylord Opryland, Stromberg replaced the names of celestial entities with those of Southern cities. The base of the sphere contains multiple musical instruments and magnolia blossoms, mirroring the imagery in the stained glass domes above, also designed and manufactured by Stromberg Architectural.
