Orleans Casino
The Orleans Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada is a gamers' paradise. The Casino features more than 3,000 machines in addition to all the gaming tables, a sports and racing book and a 24-hour lounge to retreat to for a break in the action. The Orleans also offers 1,886 rooms and suites to accommodate its customers who stay for days at a time.
Stromberg Architectural Products manufactured a plethora of architectural accents for the casino ranging from panels, railing, base mold, pilasters, keystones, arches, fluted casings and rosettes. The original order was followed up with an additional request for Corinthian caps.
The intricately sculpted floral accents at the base of the arches are composed of Stromberg's Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG). GFRG is an elegant choice for interior amenities that are not subjected to moisture. In the early 1980s Stromberg developed many of the techniques and technology used in the manufacture of GFRG today. GFRG is much lighter than traditional stone, or even plaster, and provides for easy installation. GFRG is also fire resistant as it is a mineral composition.
The Lion's Head sculptures, as well as other featured elements, were composed of Stromberg's Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC). GFRC is an excellent material for situations where the appearance and texture of solid concrete or quarried stone is desired. Stromberg's GFRC will come in at a fraction of the weight, reducing stress on the structural integrity of the construction. At the same time, there is no sacrifice made in the way of stability as GFRC has a higher tensile strength than steel. Unlike GFRG, GFRC is an excellent choice for outdoor conditions and can be expected to weather the elements as well, if not better, than actual concrete.
