Bas relief, a sculpture technique that has been practiced for tens of thousands of years, has been used to depict animals, gods, historical events, and abstract designs. In military applications, architectural bas relief is used as a way to honor fallen soldiers and memorialize the battles that shaped our nation's history. The bas relief found at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., is one of the most enchanting examples of this art form. Here, 24 bas relief panels struck in bronze show scenes from the Second World War. These works are not only a shining example of the art form at its best, but also ensure people will never forget the sacrifices made during this conflict.

In 2007, Stromberg Architectural's team had the privilege of working on The Pentagon's captivating bas relief soldier wall. Consisting of numerous panels, this bas relief work not only depicts brave men and women in battle, but also proudly displays an eagle, the Statue of Liberty-two symbols that represent the indomitable American spirit-as well as the emblems for the Navy, the Army, and the U.S. Marine Corps. With Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum, we were able to precisely match the original material's color and texture. Using GFRG, we made seamless and permanent repairs to the bas relief soldier wall, restoring it to its original beauty without the need for replacement.

Aside from restoring bas relief, we can also fill stock and custom orders. Our malleable fiber-reinforced materials allow for the development of complex shapes, and we offer a wide array of finishes. For more information about our original bas relief and bas relief renovation, contact us.
